Option 4: Artist's Choice

I had no idea why they left it up to me. I hated zombies. They always looked so grotesque. I guess it was because I knew the most about scary things. Just because I’m into scary things doesn’t mean I like the real thing! I watched the two of them hold the door closed.

“Fizz! What are we supposed to do?!” Faye was shaking. She never preferred scary things.

“I don’t know! Let me think!”

“Well hurry it up!” Cleo chimed in, struggling to keep the door closed, “I don’t exactly plan on becoming zombie food!”

I knew I had to act fast. I absolutely did not want to become some kind of amalgamation like those poor people out there. I looked around the room for anything that was of use, and came up empty handed. This room was so barren! There was no way we were making it out unless we jumped out the window which wasn’t happening. We were too high up! I quickly made my way back over to the door and helped my friends hold it shut.

“I-I don’t think we’re getting out of this.”

“No way! There’s gotta be something! Hold the door.” Cleo started looking around the room.

“It’s just a bunch of empty furniture!” I shouted over the commotion.

“Wait, Cleo! Your wings!”

“What about them?”

“Can’t you fly us down?”

Cleo pointed out the window. “Are you blind?! There’s zombies all over the place! And even if I could fly you to a safe location, I’d have to take one by one! Can one of you hold the door closed on your own?”

“I suppose not..” I start to panic. Is it really all over for us? My heart beats faster and faster. I fall to my knees and Cleo ran over, helping Faye hold the door closed.

“Are you crazy?! They could’ve come in!”

“We’re trapped anyways! We’re going to-“ All of a sudden we hear a loud explosion and turned to look out the window.

“Oh no! Maybe the house is going to collapse!” Faye screamed.

“N-No look!” I stood up and ran over to the window, “Th-There’s people fighting them off with these really big swords a-and fire!”

We watched what we could see in amazement. These guys were really going at it. Faye had looked away from some of the guys slicing zombies in half. I thought it was cool! It was just like a movie. But most of all, we were going to be saved! I went back over to the door to help keep it closed until those people arrived.

It took ages, but the sounds behind the door finally went silent. Is it safe? I knew we all thought the same thing, but who dared to look out? We couldn’t see the people fighting anymore, they had to have been inside the manor.

“Hey! Is anyone out there that’s not dead?” Faye elbowed Cleo, not liking the idea of letting anyone hear them. “What? We have to check. I want out of here.”

There was a firm knock on the door, making them all jump. “Is anyone inside here? It’s safe in this area of the manor but you must keep moving.”

“Finall-“ I slapped my hand over my friend’s mouth. She looked very confused and went to pull my hand off. Before she could speak, however, I pointed to the crack under the door. There was no shadow. It was like no one was there. We all froze and kept silent.

“Hello? I can see you three.” No one dared make a sound. How did they know that there were three of us? All of a sudden the door was blown off its hinges, sending us flying. Faye was knocked out. Cleo had a large cut on her arm. I could barely move. Everything was throbbing. I looked over at the door and a group of people came in. Not the same people from before.

“Should’ve opened the door when we asked you to.”

“Do you always have to be so dramatic, Cordelia?”

“Shut up, Aznavour. I did what you wanted. There’s your victims.”

“I wouldn’t call them victims, more like-“

“Can we just get this over with?” One of them with bright orange stardust walked over to Faye. “I’m tired of all your nonsense. If it doesn’t stop I’ll lock you all in here until the sun rises.”

Sun rises? Could that mean… vampires? Wild guess but we did just deal with zombies…

“Quit whining. There’s no harm in having a bit of fun.” Another one with white flowy hair walked in. Just how many of them were there? What were they going to do to us? They all started creeping closer, crazed looks in their eyes. I knew it. We were never making it out of here. I closed my eyes, not wanting to face what came next.

“Fizz! You can’t just give up now!” Cleo yelled over but I ignored her. What could we possibly do against them? I could hear her struggle but one of the strange people lifted me up and.. bit me?! My eyes flew open. I mean I knew what was coming but not like this! I tried to struggle but the woman with white hair held me down.

“C-Cleo!” I started panicking again. Mind racing. Heart pounding. Why was this happening to me? To us? What did I ever do? I closed my eyes, accepting defeat once again. Then.. everything ended up in abrupt chaos. The people from before that were fighting off the zombies showed up, shouting at everyone. Two of them were dressed in suits, and the other two were armed with flamethrowers and firecrackers. The vampires all transformed into bats, attempting their escape.

“Oh I think not!” The one armed with firecrackers lit one up, tossing it in the air. It went crazy, sputtering fire everywhere. I was too weak to shield myself, but it seemed like the fire was avoiding us. Some of the fire hit the bats, and some of the firecracker shot a hole in the window. Burning or not, all of them fled through the tiny hole in the window.

“You dolt.” One of the men dressed in a suit slapped the back of his head.

“Well at least they’re not hurting anyone now…”

“I’m sure they’re alright. I noticed my colleagues bite that one, though.” A woman walked in, pointing at Fizz.

“Do you think he’s turned?”

“If he is, I can take care of him. Better me than them.”

“That’s true. Thanks for the call. I think these little guys would be goners if we didn’t make it. We were too busy looking for Zero and Aria.”

“The ever elusive duo.” She sighed, but smiled at him.

“What the hell is going on?! Who are you people?! Who were they?! What’s going to happen to us?!” Cleo did the best thing she was good at. Yelling.

Everyone just smiled at her. “You’ll be alright.”
